About FACE AIDS and the Ride

In addition to reading the information below, visit the Ride Against AIDS website and the FACE AIDS website to get a feel for what the Ride is all about and why I am passionate enough about these issues to bike across the country for them.

About FACE AIDS:

Mission
FACE AIDS fights HIV/AIDS by building a global movement of youth dedicated to health equity and social justice. We empower youth with the leadership capacity and peer community necessary to move from inspiration to action and long-term engagement.

Major Achievements
Since FACE AIDS’ founding in 2005, we have made huge strides in mobilizing young leaders in global health. Specifically, FACE AIDS has:
Engaged thousands of students at over 210 college and high school campuses in the
United States, Rwanda, and around the world, empowering them with the skills and
tools to plan and lead community-based anti-AIDS activities
Provided employment, structured savings, and business training to over 300 people
affected by HIV/AIDS in Zambia and Rwanda, significantly improving their
household consumption levels and health outcomes
Raised over $2.5 million for Partners In Health to provide comprehensive,
community-based health care to HIV-affected communities in Rwanda

What We Do
(1) Provide Socio-Economic and Educational Opportunities for HIV-Affected
Individuals: FACE AIDS leads capacity-building programs for individuals most affected by HIV/AIDS in rural eastern Rwanda, an area formerly devastated by conflict, poverty, and disease. We have provided school fees assistance to over 300 HIV-affected secondary school students and brought together hundreds of youth through an annual World AIDS Day Youth Forum and through FACE AIDS chapters, which offer leadership development, psycho-social support, and educational opportunities. Furthermore, FACE AIDS partners
with associations of HIV-affected individuals to provide employment and promote savings, small business development, and financial independence, key factors to lifting communities out of poverty.

(2) Build a Youth Movement: FACE AIDS mobilizes hundreds of students in Rwanda to promote education and awareness about HIV/AIDS in their communities. We do the same with thousands of students at over 210 university and high school campuses across the
United States. Through chapters, students raise funds to support those afflicted by the disease, educate others about HIV/AIDS, and strive to change both attitudes and behaviors. Young people involved with FACE AIDS become life-long leaders in global health,
international development, and social justice.

(3) Support Comprehensive Health Care: Through innovative and community-building events and campaigns, FACE AIDS chapters in the United States raise funds to provide
comprehensive healthcare to HIV-affected communities in rural Eastern Rwanda. 100% of these funds are granted to Partners In Health, an internationally acclaimed NGO with nearly three decades of experience providing healthcare services to some of the world’s most devastated populations. Since 2005, FACE AIDS has raised more than $2 million for the provision of comprehensive health care.
